Citicoline vs. Alpha-GPC: Choosing a Choline Source

Citicoline (also called CDP-choline, sold under the branded ingredient name Cognizin) and Alpha-GPC are the two choline sources we carry, and customers regularly ask which one to start with.

Both work toward the same broad goal โ€” supplying choline for acetylcholine production, a neurotransmitter involved in learning, memory, and muscle control โ€” but the molecule that carries the choline is different, and that changes how each one is typically used.

Citicoline splits into choline and cytidine after absorption; the cytidine converts to uridine in the body, which is part of why some people report citicoline feels a bit more energizing than Alpha-GPC. If you tend to be sensitive to stimulation, that's worth knowing before you take it late in the day.

Alpha-GPC, by contrast, is generally described as feeling 'cleaner' โ€” useful for people who want a choline source without any extra edge, especially if they're already stacking caffeine or another stimulant separately.

Cost is the other practical factor: milligram for milligram, citicoline is usually priced lower than Alpha-GPC. If budget is a factor and you don't have a strong preference, that's a reasonable tiebreaker.
