TMG and Methylation: A Plain-English Explainer

Methylation is one of those supplement-world words that gets used constantly without much explanation, so here's the short version: it's a basic biochemical process your body runs constantly, involved in everything from DNA regulation to how you process homocysteine, an amino acid byproduct linked to cardiovascular health when elevated.

Trimethylglycine (TMG, also called betaine) is a methyl donor โ€” it supplies methyl groups the body uses in this process. It's the same compound found naturally in beets (in fact 'betaine' comes from the Latin word for beet), just supplied here at a defined, consistent dose rather than however much happens to be in your diet.

We sell TMG two ways: as capsules in our Methyl-B Complex, paired with active forms of B6, B12, and folate (rather than the cheaper synthetic forms common in multivitamins, which some people don't convert and use as efficiently), and as an unflavored pure powder for anyone who wants to dose it separately or stack it into an existing routine โ€” commonly alongside NMN or another longevity-focused regimen.

People typically look into TMG supplementation either because they're specifically interested in methylation support as part of a longevity stack, or because bloodwork has flagged elevated homocysteine and they're discussing options with their doctor.

As with any supplement decision tied to bloodwork or a specific health marker, this is a good one to loop your physician in on rather than deciding based on a product label alone.
